Frequently Asked Questions

Where does Shoden® come from?

Shoden® Ashwagandha is grown and manufactured in India, where Ashwagandha has a history of traditional use dating back over 3,000 years. The manufacturer of Shoden® has stringent quality standards and applies validated test methods to ensure end-to-end quality control, from the selection of materials to the final ingredient manufacture. Furthermore, the cultivation of relationships with farmers, farming communities and agricultural research institutions ensures only the best Ashwagandha raw material is selected for extraction to create Shoden®.

Is Shoden® a standardised extract?

Yes, Shoden® Ashwagandha is standardised to > 35% withanolide glycosides. Standardisation means that this key group of bioactive compounds are found in consistent concentrations in each batch of Shoden® Ashwagandha.

Why are withanolide glycoside so important, and why is a potency of > 35% so impressive?

No other Ashwagandha extract is standardised to such a significant level of withanolide glycosides as Shoden® is. In fact, some other trademarked materials contain as low as 0.001% withanolide glycosides when analysed with a validated test method.

Withanolide glycosides are a group of compounds naturally found within Ashwagandha that have been determined to be responsible for Ashwagandha’s important adaptogenic properties. By standardising Ashwagandha to a high level of withanolide glycosides, it means the therapeutic benefits of Ashwagandha can be harnessed effectively, each and every dose.

What part of the plant does the Shoden® extract come from?

Rather than utilising only the root of the plant, Shoden® is prepared from the entire plant of Withania somnifera, resulting in less wastage of biomass. The roots of Withania somnifera are considered a storage reservoir for therapeutically-important Withanolide Glycosides, with the largest proportion of these compounds actually found in the remainder of the plant, especially leaves. Other extracts utilise only the root, resulting in precious biomass being unnecessarily discarded.

Does Shoden® contain any allergens?

No, Shoden® is allergen free
